Overview

Founded in 1986, Emperor Specialty Foods Ltd specializes in importing and distributing premium gourmet products such as fresh and dried mushrooms, truffles, and other delicacies. The company started with fresh shiitake mushroom production but shifted to importing mushrooms from China and local sources by 1995. By 1998, Emperor Specialty Foods Ltd was the first Canadian company to import fresh mushrooms from China via ocean shipment, leading to a rapid expansion across Canada and into the U.S. In 2001, the company opened an office in China, enhancing their supplier relationships and product offerings, which now also include imported fruits and vegetables. Their organic fresh shiitake mushrooms continue to be produced in Vancouver.
